FA Cup round-up | Brentwood stun Dagenham as four Isthmian sides progress
Four Isthmian League sides guaranteed their place in FA Cup fourth round qualifying over the weekend, with a fifth still in with a chance of joining them.
One of the standout results of the weekend came at The Arena, where a sold-out crowd watched Brentwood Town stun National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge 3-1.
An early opener for Luke Read set the Blues on their way, before debutant Alfie Cerulli's free-kick made it two shortly after the hour mark.
It was from another set-piece that Cerulli made it three, receiving a lay-off and firing low and hard past the Dagenham goalkeeper midway through the second half.
The Step 2 visitors did pull one back six minutes from time, but there would be no comeback as Brentwood's first-ever televised game proved to be one to remember.
Also making it through to the next round in convincing fashion were Cray Wanderers, who scored three without reply at home to Chippenham Town.
Two goals in as many first-half minutes from Ola Ogunwamide and Ade Yusuff saw the Wands take a healthy advantage into the break.
Midway through the second half, Lateef Adaja lashed home their third of the afternoon to secure safe passage to the next round.
Tim O'Shea's men are into fourth round qualifying for just the fourth time in their history, and have never made it to the first round proper.
Elsewhere, there were 1-0 wins on Saturday afternoon for Leatherhead and Eastbourne Borough against Hanworth Villa and Thame United respectively.
Tom Dryer struck late for Leatherhead, his fierce effort enough three minutes from time enough to see the Tanners progress.
Terell Egbri also struck a late winner for Eastbourne as they were triumphant on the road.
The four winners from the Isthmian League divisions will be joined in the draw for the next round by Wingate & Finchley, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Bedford Town.
The Isthmian Premier side twice held the lead but were pegged back on both occasions, the second equaliser coming after they were reduced to nine men as Kai Thomas-Fraser was sent off just after the hour mark.
In the end, a second penalty of the afternoon tucked away by Bedford's George Moncur ensured that the sides will go again on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, nine other Isthmian representatives fell to defeat in third round qualifying.
Cambridge City and Crowborough Athletic fell to 2-1 home defeats against Alvechurch and Wimborne Town respectively, while Harborough Town edged a five-goal thriller against St Albans City.
As for Mulbarton Wanderers, their best-ever FA Cup run came to an end after a 2-1 defeat to Gloucester City, in front of a record-breaking crowd of 1,002 at the Abode Arena.
Enfield Town and Dulwich Hamlet fell to heavy defeats at Oxford City and Salisbury, marking the end of their respective cup journeys.
Sheppey United lost 2-0 at home to Chertsey Town, and the final game with Isthmian representation saw Dartford let slip a one-goal lead as they were beaten 2-1 by Tadley Calleva.
The draw for the next round will be made at around 2pm on Monday, live on talkSPORT.
