Isthmian League round-up | Carshalton win again to stay top

The striker opened the scoring with a penalty shortly before half-time to give the hosts the lead.

Brentwood only made matters worse for themselves early in the second half as defender Max Hudson was shown a straight red card in the 56th minute, before Carshalton effectively sealed the win six minutes later when Young-Coombes fired home his second. 

The Robins have won five from five to lead Enfield Town by three points, scoring 10 and conceding only two in the process.

As for Brentwood, they have suffered four consecutive league defeats since an opening day victory against Burgess Hill Town. Keith Rowlands’ side end Matchday 5 a point above the relegation zone in 18th.

Continuing their impressive form are second-placed Enfield, who brushed aside bottom side Whitehawk 5-1.

Sam Youngs, Thomas Avgoustidis and Luke Parrott put the Towners three up inside the opening half-hour.

Lee Seok-Jae’s first of the season at the back post gave the visitors hope as the deficit fell to two. 

But there was no fairytale comeback for Jay Lovett’s side in the second half as Parrott completed his hat-trick to round off the scoring, meaning the Hawks have lost three games on the spin since picking up their only point of the season so far against Lewes.

Much like the Towners, albeit with fewer goals, Welling United bagged their fourth win of the season with a gutsy 1-0 victory against Ramsgate. 

Nahun Melvin-Lambert scored the only goal from a Zak O’Keefe cross in the fifth minute - maintaining his run of scoring in every Welling win so far this season. 

The visitors threatened with a number of great chances to level, including firing over from close range, but Ryan Maxwell’s side held firm to hold onto three points at the Anthony Martin Community Stadium.

The Wings lie in third on 12 points, while Ramsgate sit 14th following two wins and three losses to start the campaign. 

Bouncing back from a humbling 4-1 defeat at home to Maldon & Tiptree last time out, Leatherhead returned to the play-off spots with a late win at Eastbourne Borough. 

Kofi Anokye-Boadi fired home from Bobby Price’s cross in the 86th minute to take the three points back to Surrey, in a game that appeared destined for a draw. 

The hosts fought valiantly to hold on for a lengthy period following skipper Elliott Johnson’s red card midway through the second half, before the killer blow was struck late on. 

Despite a promising start of seven points from three fixtures, Steve King’s side have lost back-to-back fixtures and drop to 13th as a result.

Sitting just above them on goal difference are Aveley, who were unable to back up last weekend’s 5-1 thrashing of Three Bridges against the in-form Lewes. 

Ryan Henshaw’s early red card put the hosts firmly on the back foot, giving Lewes an advantage they were well equipped to exploit in the second half. 

Danny Bassett opened their account with a composed finish just before the hour, then Ryan Gondoh removed any late nerves when he slotted home just before the game reached injury time. 

A 2-0 victory for Craig Nelson’s side - their third win in a row - lifts the Rooks to fifth in the table. As for Aveley, they drop to 12th ahead of a return to action against Stanway Rovers on Bank Holiday Monday. 

Also slowly building momentum are Wingate & Finchley, who captured successive victories with a 3-2 triumph at high-flying Chatham Town. 

Ashley Nzala put them ahead inside three minutes and Billy Cracknell doubled the lead with a header, giving the visitors a comfortable two-goal cushion at the break. 

Jack Lyons pulled one back for the hosts early into the second half, but the in-form Anointed Chukwu was clinical in front of goal to restore Wingate & Finchley’s two-goal advantage three minutes later. 

Kevin Hake’s side showed plenty of fight to claw another back through Ollie Evans with roughly 20 minutes left, but the Chats would ultimately finish the day empty-handed. Saturday marks their first loss since the opening day against St Albans City, leaving them sixth in the table.

The aforementioned St Albans moved level with Chatham on nine points, thumping lowly Stanway Rovers at Clarence Park Stadium. 

Stephen Toussaint’s early goal got the visitors off to the flier, although it was one-way traffic from then on. 

Kai Brown, Michael Faulkner, Remi Sutton and Inih Effiong scored a goal apiece for Gary McCann’s side to seal a 4-1 victory, and secure the perfect response to last weekend’s 4-0 thrashing at Ramsgate.

Meanwhile, Rovers are without a win in 21st. Their only point came on the opening day at Cheshunt. 

In a dramatic 2-2 draw at home to Cheshunt, AFC Whyteleafe claimed just their second point of the season. 

Charlie Naylor headed home the opener for the visitors, before Matt Warren thundered home an equaliser in the 81st minute. 

Antonis Vasiliou restored the Ambers lead to break the hearts of Leafe fans six minutes later, only for new signing Nile Ranger to head home in stoppage time to share the spoils at Flamingo Park. 

Another side making gradual improvements are Three Bridges, who clinched their first point of season with a comeback against Dulwich Hamlet. 

Bridges secured a 2-2 draw at Champion Hill, despite trailing 2-0 for much of the second half. 

Danny Mills opened the Hamlets’ account in the 10th minute, before captain Lonit Talla doubled the advantage with a driven shot past keeper Sam Roberts. 

Charlie Bennett missed the opportunity to drag one back when his 67th minute penalty thundered into the post. However, the visitors’ persistence would be rewarded. 

Noel Leighton headed home from a corner in the 83rd minute, and then Scott Malone fired home a rebound from Leighton’s saved penalty in the 87th minute to level the scores. 

Finally, over in West Sussex, Burgess Hill Town picked up a second win of the season against high-flying Dartford on Friday evening. 

Ben Pope’s double, including an 88th minute winner, came either side of Jez Pinder’s equaliser in first-half stoppage time to give the hosts three points. 

Dartford began the campaign with three straight wins, but have lost successive matches to drop down to eighth. The Hillians are a place below on eight points, having gone unbeaten in their last four. 

A busy bank holiday weekend sees the Isthmian Premier Division return on Monday.
