Rams to walk for fan Ronnie- and raise money for Motor Neurone Disease research

Ramsgate will commemorate the life of fan Ronnie Megrath on Saturday- and debut a new shirt in his honour

Pitching In Isthmian Premier side Ramsgate have suffered heartbreak this week, with the loss of dedicated supporter Ronnie Megrath- but will remember him on Saturday as they take on Wingate & Finchley. The Rams have announced not only a walk in honour of Ronnie, but that they will be wearing a new shirt which he helped to design, and which will also raise funds for MNDA.

On Tuesday, the club made the following emotional statement:

'It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Ronnie Megrath. Ronnie passed peacefully with his family by his side after a 20 month battle with Motor Neurone Disease. On behalf of the club we want to send our love and condolences to his wife Claire, Les, Rachel, Anthony, Debbie and Graham as well as all of the friends and family of Ronnie.

Ronnie was an inspiration to us all, he was a driving force behind every point home and away in last seasons title winning campaign, he will be missed by us all.

Ronnie Megrath, forever a Ram.'

A few weeks ago the club announced that they had designed a new ‘third kit’ in conjunction with Ronnie, and which supporters could pre-order. This has already raised £2000 for the charity, and will be worn by the first team at the next two matches, as well as being available for sale to supporters from Monday. Supporters who have already donated will see their names stitched into the fabric of the shirt.

As well as this new shirt, Rams fans, players and staff will be meeting at the Royal Victoria Pavillion in the town at Lunchtime on Saturday, and walking together to the stadium. They will be following a route which Ronnie took earlier this year when raising money for the charity, and we're sure it will be rather an emotional occasion. We've shown the details below, and everyone is welcome to take part.

We'd like to send our love and condolences to Ronnie's family and friends, and to all at the club- along with our heartfelt admiration at the steps being taken to honour a remarkable man.
