Charlie Ruff returns to our top flight as he signs for Billericay Town

Billericay Town have announced the signing of former Hornchurch legend Charlie Ruff.

Charlie leaves the Urchins after making twenty three appearances this season, but it was his first sixty two appearances for which he will be best remembered, for in that first spell with the club he scored the equalising goal at Wembley as Hornchurch defeated Hereford to win the FA Trophy. That first spell brought nineteen goals and twenty two assists, including thirteen goals in forty seven appearances as Hornchurch reached our Promotion Final in 21-22.

In between his two periods as an Urchin he was with Chelmsford City in National League South, and, in between two spells as a Claret, also played for Havant and Waterlooville. He made more than a century of appearances for City and was their top scorer during 23-24, when he got nineteen goals on top of his usual collection of assists.

Charlie originally joined Hornchurch in October 2020 from Potters Bar Town, where he had been for only a short time, playing three times. He made thirty one appearances for the Wingate and Finchley during the unfinished 19-20 campaign, scoring a rather impressive nine goals, returning to the club in September 2019 from Kings Langley. He'd only left Summers Lane at the end of 2018-19, a campaign during which he played nineteen times. Previously with Hertford Town and Broxbourne, Charlie was also a member of the England Representative XI which flew to the Falkland Islands for a number of matches in November 2018.
