Neil Smith leaves Cray for Crawley- Tim O’Shea takes the top job temporarily

Cray Wanderers manager Neil Smith departed the club on Friday to take the Assistant Manager role at League One strugglers Crawley Town, and his second in command Tim O’Shea stepped up to take the top job at Wands until the end of the season. .

Smith took over at Wands three years ago this month, starting his tenure by saving the club from relegation and later taking them to the Play Offs. He left them sitting comfortably in eleventh place. Prior to joining Cray he was at Bromley, first as a player, then as Assistant boss, and then as manager- the latter seeing him steer them to promotion from National League South, and to an FA Trophy Final at Wembley.

Tim O’Shea has previous managerial experience at Lewes, Croydon Athletic and Grays Athletic, and joined Wands alongside Smith three years ago. As a player, Tim turned out for Tottenham Hotspur, Leyton Orient and Gillingham, amongst others, and also played for the Republic of Ireland at Under 21 level.
