Wings fly free of the bottom four- and it’s a fine win for Fareham

Welling United’s march clear of trouble continued- and Fareham fans were delivered joy in their penultimate home match of the season

Welling United aren’t quite safe from Pitching In Isthmian Premier relegation, but victory over Potters Bar Town last night means they are almost there. The only goal arrived six minutes before the break, skipper Dean Gunner heading home, and that was enough to deliver three valuable points and lift Wings five points above the drop zone with two games to play.

One defeat in seven is form more suited to those challenging at the other end of the table, and has lifted United from second bottom as we entered March- six points from safety and with a goal difference of minus twenty nine- to seventeenth.

Fareham Town, sadly, had their Pitching In Isthmian South Central fate decided quite some time ago, but they gave their fans some much-needed joy by winning a five goal thriller against Hartley Wintney last night.

Town were dominant in the first half, Asad Ssemwogerere opening the scoring on thirty one minutes and Matty Pates quickly adding a second, but The Row had not-so-secret weapon Conor Lynch in good form and got a goal back just before the break, his ninth in sixteen matches coming from the spot. He made it ten- and six in his last three matches- with an equaliser twenty minutes from time, but only two minutes later Elliot Chaffey got what proved to be a winner for the hosts.

Fareham are twenty five points from safety after the second win in ten- and their fifth of the season. The Row are up in eleventh.
