Your Favourite Isthmian food 26-27
You like your food- and it seems that our clubs do a superb job of preparing it, as we had twenty two nominees! Here are your winners- with food that is right up your street
There was a time when the image conjured up by football food was one of flaccid burgers and chips and undercooked pies, but those days are long behind us, particularly if you are a fan of a club in the Pitching In Isthmian League. The choice seems to widen every year, and many clubs provide food of real gourmet quality.
It’s quite clear that the quality of food across the League is incredibly high- particularly as twenty five percent of our clubs were nominated! Let’s take a look at the results:
The following clubs saw their food offerings highly commended:
Ramsgate, Croydon Athletic (with particular praise for their chicken burger), Met Police, Cheshunt, Faversham Town (“banging burgers”- we suspect that’s a description rather than a variety!), Sittingbourne, Punjab United (Samosas and Chickpea Curry and particular delight), Billericay Town, Deal Town, Steyning Town (“incredible burger”), Bowers and Pitsea, Chichester City, Maldon & Tiptree, Raynes Park Vale, Felixstowe and Walton United, Hartley Wintney, and Margate.
In joint third place: AFC Portchester, Dartford and Lewes
Our runners up were Pitching In Premier side St Albans City, who received a number of votes for the finger licking menu at Chicken George. Superb stuff, as always.
And then, for the third year in a row…
Stand up and take a bow once more, Tilbury!
The Dockers tend to dominate the voting every year. The team at Eat Street provide magnificent fayre- indeed, as one of our correspondents stated, “You don’t beat Eat Street” (perhaps they should put that in their advertising?). We envy the travelling North Division supporters who get to eat there twice a year, and of course we envy the Dockers and Grays fans who get to eat there at least once a fortnight!
Our congratulations once more go to the Dockers- and very well done to all of the other clubs nominated. And please note, the Pitching In Isthmian League takes no responsibility for your expanding waistline!
