Six weeks ago Leiston midfielder Jack Ainsley was lining up for the Blues in a Playoff Semi-Final against Dulwich Hamlet. Tonight, despite Leiston wanting him to stay, he is looking forward to starting the new campaign in the Bostik North Division.
Leiston explained the situation on their website:
'On being told of Felixstowe & Walton United’s interest Jack indicated that he would like to join his home town club, but understood that if an acceptable deal could not be reached with them he would stay and continue to give 100% for next season. However, come the end of next season (2018/19) when his contract had finished he would not sign a new contract and would join Felixstowe & Walton United.
After much discussion between Blues Manager Glenn Driver and the clubs Financial Board, it was agreed that if a suitable deal could be reached that the club were happy with, then the club would allow Jack to move to Felixstowe & Walton United. After lengthy negotiations between Leiston and Felixstowe & Walton United the club has received an offer that they feel is acceptable for a player of his quality and Jack has agreed personal terms with Felixstowe & Walton United United.'
Felixstowe joint manager Kevin O'Donnell was understandably delighted:
“Signing a player of Jack’s quality is a statement of intent from Felixstowe this season. We needed players that could fit into our changing room and strengthen us on the pitch. Jack ticks all those boxes and I’m really excited to work with him this season as we continue our journey.”
