Cup kings win two out of three awards

By David Watters

Brentwood Town, Aveley and South Park are the Ryman League's September performance kings.

Named on Saturday as Macron's second Performance of the Month Award winners of the season in the monthly competition to recognise and reward the top performances of the clubs from the Ryman Premier, Ryman North and Ryman South respectively, the trio can look forward to being presented with glass trophies to mark their accolades at upcoming fixtures by representatives of the league and sponsors Macron.

As always, the competition's judges named their winners after considering a shortlist of potential clashes and taking into account the form and circumstances behind the performances.

In the Ryman's top flight, Dean Holdsworth's Ryman Premier new boys were always likely to attract their attention after the Blues dished out a 7-0 hammering to Staines Town in front of their own fans at The Arena on Saturday 5 September.

Outstanding performances away from home in the FA Cup's First Cup Qualifying Round earned both the Ryman North's Millers and the Sparks in Ryman South their divisional honours.

While South Park needed a replay to overcome Ryman Premier opponents Leatherhead, Justin Gardener's Millers returned from Histon's Bridge Road on Saturday 12 September with a resounding 5-1 victory over the Southern League outfit to book their berth in the next round.

After holding the Tanners to a 1-1 draw in Reigate on the same day, the Sparks had to wait until Wednesday 23 September to pull off one of the performances of the round at Fetcham Grove, a 3-1 win over a club more used to being giant-killers themselves.
