Cup winners commemorating Normandy landings

Folkestone Invicta's Ryman Disability Cup winners are preparing to commemorate the D-Day Landings at the 2015 Claude Thiriot Challenge Tournament in Calais.

Folkestone Invicta Disability beat Charlton Athletic 5-4 on penalties after the clubs drew 2-2 in April's final at the Fullicks Stadium to lift the trophy, pictured.

Next Friday, June 5, they'll turn out in the 36th tournament in Calais and then on Saturday, the 71st anniversary of the Normandy landings that led to the liberation of Europe, will play in a low ability seven-a-side tournament in the morning before 11-a-side event in the afternoon against opposition from France and Belgium.

A spokesman for the Ryman South runners-up said: "This is something the team can be proud of with a mix of young and older players travelling."

Invicta keeper Wayne Froud got a hand on two penalties before saving a third from the Addicks to hand Invicta the trophy in the final back on Sunday 19 April. Earlier Lee Avery who made no mistake from close range before Troy Harding grabbed a late equaliser to take the match to penalties.

* The date of Gillingham’s visit to The Fullicks Stadium for Frankie Chappell’s testimonial game against Invicta has been confirmed for Tuesday, July 7th. The centre-back first joined Invicta as an 18-year-old in 2007 and has now racked up nearly 400 appearances for the Kent club.
