Early exit for Pitt from Blues

Leiston

Leiston have parted company with manager Steve Pitt six weeks after he replaced the departed Danny Laws at the Ryman Premier’s Blues.

The former Wivenhoe Town and Bishop’s Stortford man, pictured, only arrived at Victory Road at the start of October and left on Tuesday night despite guiding his side to a 4-1 win at Lowestoft Town in the Ryman League’s Robert Dyas Cup.

Assistant manager Steve Ball, who arrived with Pitt, has been handed temporary charge as the club’s hunt for a new manager gets underway.

Leiston chairman Andy Crisp said: "It’s very unfortunate we have had to make this decision. It’s for footballing reasons and nothing to do with results. Steve is a good man but it would have been wrong for me as chairman to just give it another couple of weeks to see if things improved. Steve Ball will take charge of our game on Saturday at home to Enfield Town and we hope we can build on our great result at Lowestoft."

Former Stanways Rovers and Clacton manager Pitts took the hot-seat at Leiston after leaving Conference South Bishop's Stortford where he's been working as assistant manager to succeed Laws. Laws called time on his reign after a run of one win in eleven outings left the club fighting to stay out of the bottom four.
