Football's hot topic dominates the debate

Ryman Round-up Show

After Thursday's big seminar on the future for artificial turf in the game at the Harlow Arena, football's hot topic was still fueling the debate hours later on the latest edition of the Ryman Round-up Show.

The seminar at the Ryman North's Hawks was attended by experts from the 3G industry and delegates representing clubs from across Non-League before the popular phone-in show was broadcast a few hours later from its regular home at the stadium between 7 and 9.30pm.

Unsurprisingly, host David Square was joined by three guests with real stakes in the latest state-of-the-art playing surfaces.

Billy Martin, managing director at 3G specialists Kestral Contractors whose company helped organise the seminar, represented the wider industry while Whyteleafe secretary Chris Layton offered the thoughts of a club already playing on artificial turf.

Square's third guest, Aveley secretary and Ryman League director Craig Johnson, pictured, is widely credited for his work as a groundsman at Mill Field, a role that will ease with the Ryman North's Millers looking forward to playing on a 3G surface at a brand new stadium.

Radio Norfolk's sport reporter Nick Bowler was the final guest on the popular phone-in for fans, players and officials which was launched last season to debate the action and news among the Isthmian League's three divisions and 72 clubs every Thursday night.

Thamesmead Town's former long-serving manager Keith McMahon and Hendon boss Gary McCann took to the airwaves on last Thursday night's show. To listen to the podcast visit: Ryman Round-up Show 22.01.15.
