Hamlet win again, Police hammer Hillians, Casuals catch Rooks and Magpies go clear

By Ian Townsend

It's our Tuesday night round up with a desperately over-complicated headline!

Tuesday hosted a big night of Bostik football, with leaders Dulwich Hamlet playing their first home match since management company Meadow Residential decided to pull the financial plug. Harrow Borough were the visitors, and twelve hundred supporters turned up to help the club, which also attracted coverage from the BBC, Sky, The Independent and The Guardian. The result was almost secondary, but that was positive too, as Hamlet won 2-0 with goals from Ash Carew and Mark Weatherstone to go five points clear.

Met Police went into second place with a thoroughly convincing 4-1 victory over Burgess Hill Town at the Green Elephants Stadium- you can read about that in detail here- whilst Billericay Town moved ominously into fourth place, winning the first of their three matches this week 3-0 at Merstham. Their goals all came in a ten minute spell just before and after half time, with Louis Theophanous notching two and Billy Bricknell getting the third. Town are eight points behind Hamlet, but have five games in hand.

In the other Premier Division matches, Thurrock moved up to sixteenth with a three-nil hammering of Lowestoft Town, whilst a last minute winner from Ben Pattie gave Wingate & Finchley three points at home to Brightlingsea Regent.

In the North Division, the Magpies of Dereham Town went back to the summit, goals from Jamie Forshaw and Toby Hillard giving them a 2-0 victory over Bury Town, whilst Maldon & Tiptree scored all five goals- Joshua Pollard on target at both ends- as the Jammers moved up to ninth in beating Brentwood Town 4-1. Hertford Town and Witham Town shared two goals, whilst Mildenhall Town suffered a hangover after their Trophy heroics at the weekend, losing 1-0 at home to Waltham Abbey.

A visit from the Back of the Net team always seems to guarantee goals, but South Park must be sick of the sight of them, and of Corinthian-Casuals. Back in September Park travelled to Tolworth and came away with a 5-0 thrashing in front of the cameras, and last night was even worse, as Casuals thumped in six goals whilst conceding only one in replay. Congratulations go to Gabriel Odunaike, who got a hat trick as Casuals joined Lewes at the top of the table on thirty seven points. The Rooks were held 0-0 at Whyteleafe.

There were lots of goals right across the South Division. Herne Bay had five different scorers as they won 5-3 at Ashford United, and two away sides- Guernsey and East Grinstead Town- managed four, being 4-2 winners at Molesey and Shoreham respectively. Hyde and VCD Athletic both notched three, beating Faversham Town and Ramsgate, whilst Horsham and Hastings United shared four goals equally at Culver Road. Greenwich Borough could have gone top with victory at Walton Casuals, but required a last minute equaliser to grab a point.

In the FA Trophy, Potters Bar Town's replay with Hereford United was delayed due to the away team coach breaking down, but in the end their run came to an end, the Bulls grabbing a 2-1 victory. Cray Wanderers finally got to play their tie at Moneyfields, and will now need to replay after a 1-1 draw.

Finally, in the Velocity Trophy, Enfield Town had a convincing 4-1 victory at Cheshunt, whilst Hendon walloped five- including a Zak Joseph hat trick- as they defeated Grays Athletic, who had taken the lead in the match through Jamie Slabber.

Tonight Thamesmead Town take on Phoenix Sports in the South Division.
