Burgess Hill Town striker Greg Luer has sealed a January move to Premier League Hull City to follow in the footsteps of Folkestone Invicta’s Johan Ter Horst who stepped up from the Ryman League in the summer.

The 19-year-old, pictured, will join the Tigers for an undisclosed fee and remain available to the Ryman South Hillians and manager Ian Chapman until his move is completed on January 1 when the transfer window re-opens.

The Brighton-based frontman made his debut for Burgess Hill aged 17 in 2013 and went on to net 14 times in his first season. He broke into the first team at the Green Elephants Stadium last season, having impressed for the youth team and won his move, which is still subject to a medical, after scoring 10 goals this season.

The Hillians put him on contract last November and he had a trial at Millwall in the summer before playing for Oxford’s development side last week before passing up on an offer to move there in favour of joining the Tigers’ development squad.

Burgess Hill chairman Kevin Newell said: "We are all delighted that Greg has made his first step towards realising his ambition to play at the highest level – though our pleasure is tinged with the disappointment that we will no longer have Greg’s talents at our disposal.

"He has been a key player for us this year and has been influential in the tremendous start to the season we have enjoyed. However, we have always made it clear to our younger players that we would help them progress their careers in any way possible and we are happy to honour that pledge with Greg."

Terms of the sale remain confidential but Newell added: "I am sure that the terms agreed will stand the club in good stead for the promotion push that we are undertaking."

Chapman said: "Everyone at the club is very excited for Greg and I wish him every success. My task now is to make sure that his departure does not impact on our progress.

"I have some very talented young players making their mark in the first team, and I look at Greg’s departure as an opportunity for those lads to force their way into contention for a regular starting slot."
