Latest reverse ends Massey era

Carshalton Athletic

Ryman South Carshalton Athletic are inviting applications for the manager's hot-seat at Colston Avenue after parting company with Stuart Massey on Wednesday.

Massey, pictured, left the club by 'mutual agreement' following Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat at East Grinstead Town. The result extended Athletic's winless run of games to nine, reverses that included exiting all major cup competitions, and left the Robins fourth from bottom.

Former Sutton United, Crystal Palace and Oxford United midfielder Massey was appointed at the start of January as the successor to Ian Hazel and had previously managed Chipstead, Sutton United and Whyteleafe. During his tenure this season, the 49-year-old had presided over five wins, five draws and 12 defeats.

In a statement released by the south London club confirming his departure, officials said reserve team manager Rob Scantlebury would take charge as caretaker until a new manager was installed.

Chairman Paul Dipre said: "The results over the past two months have not been good enough but this decision bears no reflection upon the efforts of Stuart who has been trying hard to improve things. However, we have some very talented players and a first team budget greater than most in the league. It was agreed the club is currently a long way from our pre-season expectations.

"With excellent training facilities, an exciting academy set-up and a great team of back-office staff, we do have higher ambitions for the first team than where we currently are. We would like to thank Stuart and wish him the best in his future endeavours."
