Opportunity knocks for temporary duo

Sittingbourne

Caretaker managers Matt Wyatt and Nick Davis will be given every chance to take charge of Ryman South Sittingbourne permanently.

The Brickies say around 20 candidates have expressed an in interest in succeeding Jim and Danny Ward who resigned after last week’s Kent Senior Cup win at Chatham but won't rush into making an appointment.

Bourne Chairman Maurice Dunk wants to see if coach Wyatt and captain Davis are up to the job after the pair started with a 3-0 win over Worthing last weekend and narrowly lost 2-1 at Chipstead on Tuesday night.

With Bourne hosting Littlehampton in the FA Cup's First Qualifying Round at Woodstock Park on Saturday, Dunk told www.kentonline.co.uk: "Matt and Nick stabilised things and have the players on side and I thought tactically they got things spot-on against Worthing.

"Around 20 managers have been in touch – some in work, some out of work and even one who’s attached to a Football League club – but we’re not looking to make an appointment as we want to give Matt and Nick a chance.

He added: "The first thing we’d like to see is results, although I accept we were unlucky to lose five of the first six league games under Jim and Danny."
