Performance kings collect accolade

With games in hand on all their rivals, promotion-chasing Tonbridge Angels have been keeping up the performance levels that saw them scoop the Ryman Premier's inaugural Macron Performance of the Month Award.

Named alongside Cray Wanderers and Dorking Wanderers in Ryman North and Ryman South as one of August's trio of winners, Angels were officially presented with their award this week before beating Lewes 1-0 at the Longmead Stadium, Ryman League vice-chairman Craig Johnson handing over the club's inscribed glass trophy to manager Steve McKimm before kick-off in Kent on Tuesday night.

Macron's monthly competition aims to recognise and reward the top performances of the Ryman's 72 clubs over the course of the season with the competition's judges considering a shortlist of potential clashes and taking into account the form and circumstances before naming their winners.

Angels were named as Macron’s first top flight winners of the campaign for the second year in a row. Few would argue with the decision. After scooping last season's August accolade for beating eventual champions Maidstone United, manager Steve McKimm guided his side to an even more impressive 5-0 win this time around away at Bognor Regis Town on Saturday 22 August.

Ryman South newboys Dorking Wanderers marked their first month in the league with a Macron accolade, last season's Sussex County League runners-up announcing their arrival with an award-winnning 4-0 away victory at Carshalton's Athletic's Colston Avenue on the opening day of the season, Saturday 8 August.

Tony Russell took a little longer to announce his arrival as the new manager of Cray Wanderers in Ryman North, the former VCD boss guiding his side to a 6-2 triumph at AFC Sudbury on Saturday 22 August to take the division's accolade.
