Poor start down to bad luck

Canvey Island manager Danny Heale isn't worried about his side's three game losing start to the new Ryman Premier campaign.

The Gulls secured a well earned first point at home to Lowestoft on Tuesday after a three game losing start and Heale believes his side side could have picked up a couple of wins with a little more luck after losing to Kingstonian, Cray Wanderers and Lewes.

A missed penalty at Ks on the opening day, a disallowed goal at Cray and a harsh sending off at Lewes haven't helped the cause, insists Heale.

Heale told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I’m not making excuses but I think it’s fair to say that with a bit more of the rub of the green we could have had six points. The positive thing is it is not like we are losing games three and four nil, because then we would be worried.

"We are a new side and I can see progress being made with every game. What we really need to do is make better starts because so far we have been 1-0 down after 10 minutes in all our games. What I want is for us to get to half-time at 0-0 and still in with a chance of winning rather than just chasing."
