Rooks go religious

By Ian Townsend

Well, they have signed a Pope...

Earlier this afternoon we were surprised to read that Burgess Hill Town's nine goal striker Ben Pope had left the Green Elephants Stadium. Well in the last few minutes we've found out why, as he has just been announced as a new signing for Lewes.

The Rooks recently lost striker Jonte Smith to Oxford United, and have been looking to bring in a suitable replacement- and Pope certainly fits the bill. Still only twenty one years old, the former Worthing man was in his first season with the Hillians after leaving Woodside Road, but whilst severe injury has hampered his progress over the last couple of years his talent was previously recognised by a number of professional clubs. He will undoubtedly be hoping that some Darren Freeman magic might send him on his way to further success- and that, perhaps, he can fire Lewes to promotion too!
