Second chance to impress academy coaches

Corinthian Casuals coaches have set aside another trial date for talented young players hoping to win a place in the next intake at the Ryman South club’s successful academy.

Now in its second year and run in partnership with Glenthorne High School in Surrey, the academy held initial trials last Tuesday for their successful post 16 programme at the Goals Soccer Centre in North Cheam. Coaches are planning to return to the venue again this coming Tuesday (April 15) and say candidates should register in advance.

The academy players all adhere to the club’s worldwide reputation for fair play and sportsmanship when competing in the Football Conference Youth Alliance League as Corinthian-Casuals and in the English Colleges League and a number of nationwide and local cup competitions as Glenthorne High School.

Home games for the Corinthian Casuals Academy side are played at the club's King George's Field ground in Tolworth. Training is led three times a week by UEFA ‘A’ & ‘B’ qualified coaches and includes an analytical element to teach students the theory and strategy of the game.

The trials are open to boys born between September 1 1997 and August 31 1998. Successful candidates from the trial will be enrolled on to a two year programme, studying for their A levels as well as level 2/3 BTEC Diploma in Sport in the sixth form at the secondary school in Sutton which has been rated as ‘outstanding’ by education inspectors.

Casuals say students who complete the programme can expect to follow pathways into higher education and employment within the sport and leisure industry.
