Skipper in frame to succeed Colbran

Horsham skipper Gary Charman is set to meet up with officials of the Ryman South club this week to find out if he will be given the chance to permanently succeed former manager Simon Colbran.

Colbran, pictured, took over at the Hornets in March 2012 and resigned on Friday before being installed as joint-manager at Sussex County outfit Crowborough alongside Sean Muggeridge. Hornets stalwart Charman took over as caretaker for Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Sittingbourne.

Since making his debut in 2000, the midfielder has made more than 500 appearances for the club and has publically declared his interest in getting the job ahead of Saturday’s Ryman South clash at home to Folkestone Invicta.

Colbran resigned after lengthy discussion with club officials last Thursday, citing business and travelling issues along with the growing demands of the part-time role and the difficulty he was having maintaining the level of commitment he felt was needed.

In a statement on their official website the Hornets thanked Colbran, saying: "Horsham Football Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Simon for the dedication he has shown since his appointment to the role in March 2012 and we wish him well in his current and future ventures."

Colbran insists he has left on good terms and told the County Times: "I love the club - I love everything about it and it was a really difficult decision. I was being asked to do more and more. I was doing 30 hours a week on football and throw in the travelling and the fact I run two businesses and I was finding it too much.

"The travelling was difficult and if I was local I would probably have stuck with it. It got a bit too much in the end and it was the right time to go. Crowborough has always been a club close to my heart. It is local and I will be working with Sean which will take the pressure off a bit."
