Grays Athletic's fans have been out and about drumming up support for Mark Bentley's side as they chase a Ryman Premier play-off spot.

The Blues are just three points off fifth spot in the Ryman's top flight with seven games to go and fans are already planning more promotional events after the positive reception from members of the public to a stand the exiles set up outside the Grays branch of supermarket chain Morrisons, pictured.

Bentley's side are away at bottom-of-the-table Bury Town on Saturday and club officials are hoping to see a rise in attendances for their final home games at Aveley's Mill Field after supporters also helped distribute 10,000 flyers promoting the club around Grays.

One of the event's organisers, Blues supporter Rob Seaman, said: "I have been very surprised by the genuine interest shown by the general public. The positive comments towards the club are something that we can all use going forward.

"Even if an extra 20 people turn up at Mill field after today that is positive and we must build on this going forward."

A club spokesman said: "We were very pleased at the response from the public. It's been five years since the Blues last played at the Rec in Grays and to many, Grays Athletic has slipped to the back of their minds. It was refreshing to hear from our supporters that the general feedback was positive."
