Tamplin: The best is yet to come!

Backed by an army of fans from Essex at Wednesday night's 8-3 rout of Tonbridge Angels - the rampant Blues under the guidance of Tamplin and joint boss Justin Gardner set two new competition records and equalled a third in the annihilation of their Ryman Premier promotion rivals.

As well as scoring the most goals and taking part in the highest scoring final since Tilbury won the inaugural cup competition back in 1975, the Blues also equalled the five goal winning margin record set by Sutton United in 1988 when the beat Oxford City 6-1.

After seeing Billy Brickell help himself to a hat-trick before half-time, Adam Cunnington bag a brace and goals from Jake Robinson, Byron Lawrence and Kreshnic Krasniqi overwhelm the Angels at Carshalton Athletic's Colston Avenue, Tamplin told supporters to keep dreaming about promotion, if not this year then definitely next.

Tamplin said: "We have don't this alone, this is a mixture of me, Jason, the players, the fans and everyone connected with the club. We have all come together as one tonight and the play-offs aren't over yet.

"We'll have a got at them but if not we are going to win the league this year we will next year, we are absolutely going to win the league next year. We haven't done it yet but we are well on our way. I am not here for one promotion or two, I'm here for three or four to take us to League Two, that's the plan!"

Like last season's finalists, both clubs collected cup windfalls with the Blues banking £2500 in prize money as well as a share of the profits. Tonbridge will console themselves with £1500 in prize money and a share of the night's proceeds while this season's losing semi-finalists collected £750 and quarter-finalists £250.

To reach the final, Billericay Town dispatched Heybridge Swifts in the competition's first round before going on to knock out Tilbury on penalties, Brightlingsea Regent, Worthing and South Park.

The Isthmian League Cup, renamed the Alan Turvey Trophy before the start of last season in tribute to former Ryman League chairman and current president Alan Turvey, was sponsored for the first time three seasons ago by Robert Dyas, a subsidiary of the Isthmian League's title sponsors Ryman.

This season's competition has proved to be one of the best supported ever with gates up in every round. The third round and quarter-finals attracted the biggest increases with 24.6 and 74.7 percent increases respectively on last season alone.
