Tuesday's Premier Division action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Kent sides Maidstone United and Margate made it four wins from four games in the Ryman Premier on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Stones beat a Hampton & Richmond Borough outfit who, surprisingly, have yet to pick up a point in 2014-15.

Frannie Collin gave the home side the boost of an early eighth minute lead but the excellent crowd of 1,473 had to wait until the 65th minute for a match-clinching second from Jack Parkinson.

Terry Brown's Margate inflicted a first defeat on East Thurrock United at Hartsdown Park in front of a crowd of 571.

Charlie Allen gave Gate the lead from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark. Ryan Moss doubled the home side`s lead seven minutes into the second period and then the same player made it game over with a third on 69 minutes. Lewis Smith netted a consolation spot-kick for the Rocks nine minutes from the end.

Still yet to taste defeat are Dulwich Hamlet, newly-promoted Witham Town and Kingstonian and Leatherhead, who meet on Wednesday night at Fetcham Grove.

On Tuesday, Dulwich beat Peacehaven & Telscombe 3-1 at Champion Hill in an exciting end-to-end encounter with their newly-promoted visitors.

A crowd of 513 saw Nyren Clunis give Hamlet a 37th minute lead, but the Sussex side gave as good as they got. They finally conceded a second through Ashley Carew 13 minutes from time and seven minutes later the points were assured when sub Nigel Neita made it 3-0, although Peacehaven kept going and got a consolation goal in the third minute of injury-time.

Witham made it three draws from their four games - they won the other one - when Essex rivals Grays Athletic took a point from the Village Glass Stadium.

It was the visiting Blues who took a 12th minute lead from new signing Jamie Guy. But four minutes into the second half Lewis Godbold equalised, and that`s how the scoreline remained.

Leiston earned a third win out of four after recording a fine win at the appropriately-named Victory Road over an AFC Hornchurch side yet to win so far this season.

Two late goals put the gloss on an excellent team performance with Gareth Heath scoring in the 20th and 90th minutes, Stuart Boardley on 25 minutes and a first for the club for the much-travelled Cliff Akurang in the third minute of stoppage time.

Tonbridge Angels and Wingate & Finchley both earned their second victories of the new campaign.

Relegated Angels beat a Lewes side yet to win 2-0 at Longmead. Defender Jerome Sobers gave Steve McKimm`s side the lead around the half-hour mark. Lewes were well in the game but seven minutes into the second half they were down to ten-men when Jordan Sanderson was shown a second yellow card.

And then 15 minutes from time, any hope of a Rooks` comeback disappeared when Ollie Rowe was also dismissed for a second bookable offence. Four minutes later Dee Okojie supplied Alex Teniola to make it 2-0 and game over.

Wingate inflicted a 4-0 home drubbing on a Bury Town side also still looking for a first win.

Karl Oliyide gave the hosts a great start with a goal inside four minutes and less than two minutes later David Knight doubled Wingate`s lead. Knight added his second and the home side`s third in the 17th minute and went on to complete his hat-trick on the hour-mark with Wingate`s fourth.

Tuesday`s other game was a remarkable 4-4 draw in which Canvey Island produced a stunning comeback from 4-1 down with eight minutes to play to draw with Metropolitan Police at The Prospects Stadium.

Ryan James gave the Met an 18th minute lead that Michael Charles doubled 11 minutes later. Jay Curran pulled one back for the home side eight minutes before half-time but the visitors stretched their lead to 3-1 in the 63rd minute, courtesy of Matt Pattison.

And it looked all over when Pattison notched his second and the Met`s fourth 10 minutes later. But sub Marlon Agyakawa bagged a brace in the 82nd and 89th minutes and a nervy visiting side were pegged back when Jay Curran grabbed Canvey`s equaliser in injury-time.
