Turner eases Bay fears

By Peter Butcher

OF THE three league matches played tonight (Wednesday), probably the most significant was in Ryman South where Herne Bay, newcomers to the league this season, needed a win to make almost certain of a second season.

And they got it. James Turner’s 58th-minute goal was enough to see off Eastbourne, lifting Bay four places to 14th and eight points off the bottom.

Romford entertained met Tilbury in Ryman North and, for the second time this month, beat them 2-1 to move up to ninth place.

Boro dominated the first half but it was the 54nd minute before they went ahead with a well-taken goal from Lewis Francis.
Joe Nightingill (pictured, in red, by Gavin Ellis/TGS Photo clearing from Kurt Smith) levelled the scores in the 72nd minute and Dockers pressed hard after that, only to be defeated by an 88th-minute George Woodward header.

The other game in the division was settled early. Ollie Fenn netted after seven minutes to give Needham Market a 1-0 win at Waltham Forest.

Where next?

Big night in survival battles THERE were seven Ryman League matches tonight (Thursday) and there were highly important results in the battle for survival in all three divisions.
Trawlerboys right on target THE RACE for the Ryman Premier title remains very much alive after Lowestoft whipped Cray 4-1 last night (Tuesday) in Suffolk and moved into second place.
