Warning to fans over planning vote

The Hornets, who've been playing in exile for the last nine years since quitting their old Queen Street site, are urging their supporters to write to Horsham District Council in support of their latest planning application for a new ground at Hop Oast and a linked housing development at the Holbrook site they own and lease to the The Holbrook Club.

The application goes before local politicians in March and the Sussex club's CEO John Lines is urging fans to write to their local authority's planners or risk seeing their 125 year old club die after seeing their dreams of funding their new ground with new homes stall previously after failed planning bids.

In the introduction to his email urging fans to get their friends and families on board, Lines wrote: "Written support will count massively in the thoughts of the Council members voting on the project. Your help with just a short note as described below could mean the difference between this great old community football club surviving or folding. Please pass this on also to anyone else you think will respond."

Pictured at the Worthing Road site the Hornets hope to call home, he added: "Letters of support are vital and need only be a few lines. On the Hop Oast application it could be about the benefit the new ground and facilities would bring as a once only opportunity to schools, clubs and the ever-increasing numbers of households in the community, particularly the youngsters and at no cost to tax payers.

"It could be about saving the town’s 125 year old football club from extinction or the ground being built in the most suitable location in the district on bus routes, opposite the park and ride, off the A24 and hidden from view. For the Holbrook application, it would mean a secure long term future for The Holbrook Club and the preservation of more than 50 jobs."
