Wednesday's Ryman South action review

Ryman League South Division

Leatherhead and Horsham joined Crawley Down Gatwick and Hastings United on Wednesday night in making it two wins from their opening two matches in Ryman South, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Tanners eased to a 3-0 derby win over Corinthian-Casuals at Fetcham Grove, much-travelled striker Allan Tait giving the home side the lead five minutes before half-time. However, it wasn't until the final eight minutes that Leatherhead confirmed victory with goals from Kevin Terry and Tait again.

Ryman League football came to the Channel Islands for the first time but it was a bad night for Guernsey FC as Horsham edged a close game at Footes Lane in front of a terrific crowd of 1,363.

The Green Lions had chances to take the lead against a strong Hornets outfit but didn’t take them, Matt Loaring missing a gilt-edged chance early in the second half. And they were punished when Byron Napper slid home on 61 minutes to give the visitors a lead they always looked comfortable defending.

Guernsey pushed forward in the later stages without ever looking like equalising and there can be few complaints that an excellent Horsham side edged an even Ryman South game.

Another promoted side, Redhill, remain unbeaten after drawing their opening game and then winning 2-0 at The Saffrons against Eastbourne Town on Wednesday. Richmond Kissi, who scored twice last Saturday, did likewise on the Sussex coast with goals in the ninth and 66th minutes.

In contrast, Merstham have yet to record a point as Ramsgate earned their first win of the new campaign. The Rams won 2-0 at the Moatside Stadium, courtesy of goals from David Pilcher after 26 minutes and Andy Miller eight minutes after half-time.
