Former Lewes and Staines Town man set to sign for QPR

If local and national press reports are to be believed, former Lewes and Staines Town winger David Wheeler is about to sign for Championship Queens Park Rangers from Exeter City. Wheeler, who scored 21 goals for the Grecians last season, will make the move for an as yet undisclosed fee, subject to a medical.

Wheeler played 94 games for the Rooks after his release by Brighton and Hove Albion, and still enjoys a close relationship with the club, visiting the Dripping Pan in June this year for the launch of Lewes FC Juniors- a collaboration between Lewes FC and Lewes Bridge View Junior FC. Speaking at the time, he was keen to stress just how grateful he was for the coaching he received at the Pan and at Bridge View.

He moved to Wheatsheaf Park in June 2011, turning out seventy times for the Swans- where he is still held in high regard. Supporter Daniel Norris, writing in our season preview back in July, described him as ‘one of the best players I have ever seen at this level, let alone for my club.’

Wheeler joined the Grecians in the summer of 2013.
