A big night at both ends!

By Ian Townsend

Rams, Brickies and Bridges fight for promotion, Becks, Wasps, Golds and Sports are all still in danger- so it’s a rather crucial South East Tuesday

Ramsgate have the chance to go back to the top of Pitching In Isthmian South East tonight, but they’ll need a substantial win at East Grinstead Town to do so- and the Wasps very much need the points, too. The Rams are currently three points behind leaders Cray Valley PM, and three goals in deficit, whilst the Wasps are seven points- but one place- above the drop zone, and with second bottom Beckenham Town having won impressively at the weekend and in action again tonight they certainly won’t count themselves as safe yet. Town have only one win from ten.

Third place Sittingbourne are effectively one win away from confirming a play off place, but will also want to ensure the home advantage which comes with third place, and with Chichester City breathing down their neck the Brickies will want to get back to winning ways at Littlehampton Town- and show an immediate reaction to Saturday’s three-nil loss at Three Bridges. The Golds, with one win in ten, are seven points clear of the drop zone but will hope to extend that gap.

Three Bridges are back to their early season best and take a ten match winning run into tonight’s match against managerless Hythe Town, having won their last four and scored three goals on each occasion. The Cannons head to Jubilee Field in disarray, having lost six in a row and seen boss Steve Watt decide to depart immediately after the last of those. A home win will see Three Bridges open up a five point gap on sixth place Lancing.

Horndean’s match against Phoenix Sports will not be at Horndean at all, but instead on the 3G of Chichester City, which should allow the weather to be defeated whatever it throws at us. The Deans are in decent form with only one defeat from five and are entirely safe from the drop accordingly, whilst their ‘visitors’ are two places but eight points further back, a run of only two defeats from their last seven having allowed them to open a nine point gap on second bottom Beckenham Town with both sides having four matches left to play.

Finally, Beckenham Town welcome Sheppey United with their plight still rather desperate, if a little less desperate after Saturday’s five-two win over Hythe Town. With a seven point gap between themselves and safety, Town will probably have to win each of their remaining four matches and hope that one of the three sides directly above them has a nightmare end to the campaign. The visiting Ites have finally rediscovered their form, and make the trip having scored eight goals in their last two matches.
