A Premier- and Hornets- Tuesday

By Ian Townsend

Horsham welcome Barnsley in an FA Cup First Round Replay, and we have Premier and Velocity Cup action too. Here’s a preview.

From Camping World to the entire world, Horsham welcome a sold out crowd and ITV cameras to their Camping World Community Stadium this evening, as they welcome League One side Barnsley in an FA Cup First Round Replay.

The Hornets were breathtakingly magnificent in the first match at Oakwell (here’s a reminder), although perhaps showed a few pre-game nerves when losing to Hashtag United on Saturday. That said, their opponents were also losing, in their case three-nil at Derby County.

Please note- there are no tickets available, and the club would ask that you park in the town centre and use a free shuttle bus to the ground, as there will be no parking at the ground. More details here.

Good luck to the Hornets tonight- but whatever happens, you've made us proud!

Right, back to the bread and butter!

Pitching In Isthmian Premier leaders Hornchurch hit the road to Canvey, where- weather permitting- they are scheduled to take on Concord Rangers in a clash that pits bottom against top. The Urchins have been imperious this season, still undefeated and a rather massive eleven points clear at the top- and with none of their closest rivals in league action that lead could be fourteen points by 10PM.

Whilst Hornchurch have been winning ten matches in a row, the Beachboys have had a rather unhappy time- although postponements have left them without a match since October 24th’s win at Haringey Borough, so they’ve had three weeks off! That was one of only two wins this season, but it also brought a first clean sheet, so at least they’ve had something happy to reflect on during their enforced lay off. POSTPONED

Fifth welcomes sixth as Hastings United play host to Carshalton Athletic. The return of manager Chris Agutter to United has brought with it three wins in three matches, and a rapid climb up the table. Athletic’s form of late has been rather the opposite, and they make the journey after a run of league matches which has seen only one win in seven- one in ten if you add in Cup and Trophy. That said, the Robins league position hasn’t suffered all that much, and if they can get back to wining ways this evening they’ll climb above their hosts and back into the top five. Last seasons meetings saw both sides pick up three points in their home fixtures. POSTPONED

Both Canvey Island and Lewes have become a little unpredictable of late. The Gulls followed a three match winning run with only one win from the next three, and were defeated three-nil at Enfield Town at the weekend; whilst the Rooks have taken only one point from their last three matches, losing their last two against Wingate & Finchley and Margate. Those results find both sides marooned in mid table, a far cry from last seasons encounters, when the sides were battling for a play off spot. The Gulls won that battle, and won at the Dripping Pan, but they did lose three-one at home to the Rooks in April, a Razz Coleman De-Graft hat trick making all the difference. POSTPONED

Folkestone Invicta will look to follow their home win over Billericay Town on Saturday with another over Haringey Borough. That victory for Invicta followed three defeats, whilst Borough found themselves at a different seaside, losing three-nil at Bognor Regis Town. The visitors are second bottom and in great need of points, having won only once all season and taking five points from the last fifteen available.

The last nine meetings between the clubs have seen three wins each and three draws, with each side winning their home fixtures last season.

The Velocity Cup Third Round sees an all-Premier match between Whitehawk and Margate. The Hawks remain difficult to defeat, their narrow loss at Chatham at the weekend only their second of the league season, and it followed an FA Trophy hammering of Kingstonian and a league win over local rivals Bognor Regis Town. The Hawks remain unbeaten at home in all competitions. The travelling Blues have lost only oner of their last six- and of course defeated the Hawks at Hartsdown Park on the opening day. POSTPONED

Enfield Town welcome Brightlingsea Regent. The Towners were impressive in defeating Canvey on Saturday, and are having a fine league campaign, but have had less luck in Cup competitions over the last month or so, departing the FA Cup, FA Trophy and Middlesex Cup. Pitching In Isthmian North Regent have been very good at times this season, but their away form has been less positive of late, their last five matches in all competitions away from the Taydal bringing four defeats. POSTPONED.
