A South Central Wednesday

By Ian Townsend

We've two matches tonight- and could end up with new leaders

It's a Pitching In Isthmian South Central Wednesday, and second place Leatherhead will attempt to rename themselves first place Leatherhead as they travel to Sutton Common Rovers.

The Tanners are currently the only side in the Division with a zero in the L column, and trail current leaders Raynes Park Vale by two points with a game in hand. They've been in fine form, and have won four of their last five matches in all competitions, the only blot on that copybook a one-nil loss against Chipstead in the Velocity Cup last week. They bounced back from that to hammer Thatcham Town five-nil on Saturday.

Their hosts tonight, Rovers, are three points behind the Tanners in fifth place and could even go above them with victory. There has been a great deal of entertainment in their matches, with only Raynes Park Vale and Uxbridge having scored more goals- but their goals against column is also in double figures so we may see action at both ends. In ten matches across all competitions they've found the net on every occasion.

Last season the sides met three times. The Tanners won twice, once on penalties in the Velocity Trophy after a two-two draw, and a second time in a four-three League victory. The third match was drawn.

At the 1878 Stadium, home of Burnham FC, Southall will hope to follow their eight-nil hammering of Binfield at the weekend with victory over Marlow- but we suspect the visitors tonight might just be a little more difficult to get the better of, as they have a generally mean defence. A win for Marlow could lift them from sixth to third, whilst another victory for The All could see them enter the top five- and would certainly take them above tonight's opponents.

Marlow put a four match winless run across three knockout competitions to an end with victory at Guernsey on Saturday. Both they and their hosts have played fewer matches than any of their rivals due to earlier Cup successes and replays- that eight-hill win for Southall on Saturday their first league outing since August Bank Holiday Monday. They'd lost three in a row and departed all Cups prior to that enormous victory.

Southall defeated Marlow one-nil at home in November last year, whilst their match by the Thames was a one-one draw.
