A stellar comeback for Athletic, whilst Town march on

By Ian Townsend

Two cup ties, two Pitching In Isthmian sides through, one out. Here’s our round up of last night’s FA Cup action

Sevenoaks Town welcomed Merstham, and eased to victory with two first half goals in front of a crowd of three hundred and ninety one- apparently the highest of the night in the competition. Yahaya Bamba put them ahead eleven minutes before the break, assisted by Gondoh, and four minutes later they got that all-important second, a Brad Wilson free kick met by the head of Dami Olorunnisomo. Try as they might, the Moatsiders couldn’t find a way back, and Kingstonian will be making a trip to the Bourne Stadium on September 3rd.

Grays Athletic had a battle against a previously undefeated Stotfold at Parkside. The visitors, understandably, came into the match with confidence high, and it got higher still when they went ahead after approximately twenty seconds! Devante Simmi got the opener, and despite the hosts efforts it was two three minutes before the break, Code-lee Spavins with that one. Joshua Osude hit back for the hosts, but the two goal cushion might have been restored when the visitors got a penalty- but Athletic goalkeeper (athletic in every sense) Danny Sambridge had other ideas and pulled off a save.

After the break another fine save from the Grays keeper kept his side in the game, and then at the other end substitute Callum Watts got the equaliser. Athletic had half an hour to find a winner- and it duly came in the seventy third minute, Osude completing the comeback. They travel to Edgware Town in the next round.
