AB1 Golden Gloves Awards- January 2023

By Ian Townsend

Here are the winners of our first Golden Gloves Awards of the new year, sponsored by AB1 Goalkeeping

Another month over, another collection of mean defences to be recognised. Who had the best backlines of January?

Premier Division

We head to the Camping World Community Stadium to deliver our first set of gloves in 2023 to Horsham keeper Taylor Seymour. The Hornets were unbeaten during January, kept two clean sheets, and only conceded two goals during the entire month. Hastings United and Margate failed to breach their mean defence, Billericay Town got one yet conceded three, whilst Carshalton Athletic were the only side to get a point- but one was all they got.

Congratulations to Taylor, and to those who stand in front of him.

North Division

AFC Sudbury are having a magnificent season, and January was rather typical- five matches played, five wins, four clean sheets, only one goal conceded. Our leaders have strength throughout the side, but we’re here to honour goalkeeper David Hughes, who- as always- has been consistently superb. Perhaps we should honour Wroxham’s Shaun Taylor, too, as he had the accolade of being the only player to find a way past the Yellows defence!

Many congratulations to David and the meanest defence in the North Division.

South Central Division

Basingstoke Town had a rather busy January- and it couldn’t have been more successful. Six matches, six wins, eighteen goals scored and only three conceded- Stoke’s record of conceding an average of half a goal a match (yes, we know, you can’t score half a goal!) was fabulous, and helped them to the top of the table. Paul Strudley is the man between the sticks, and we’d like to send him our congratulations and some fabulous gloves courtesy of AB1 goalkeeping.

South East Division

With three clean sheets from four matches, nobody can be surprised that our South East Golden Gloves winners are Cray Valley PM. VCD Athletic, Ramsgate and Hythe Town all tried and failed to breach the Millers rearguard, and the man standing behind that rearguard on each of those occasions was keeper Chris Lewington. Many congratulations to Chris, and to the green wall that supports him.

Thanks to AB1 Goalkeeping for being our sponsors. You can take a look at their magnificent products- and they don’t just sell gloves- by heading HERE.

Premier League winner and international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will be best known for his work between the posts, particularly for Stoke City, Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth. But he also has his own company- AB1 Goalkeeping- who provide magnificent products for discerning goalkeepers everywhere- and we are lucky enough to have them as sponsors of our Golden Gloves Award. As they explain:

'AB1 Goalkeeping was the brainchild of one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers, Asmir Begovic. With his 15 years’ experience playing at the highest levels of top-flight international football, plus a development team with over 20 years’ experience of developing first-class goalkeeping products, we have a range of equipment to suit all levels of the game, from Grass Roots Football to the Premier League.'
