It’s time to recognise our best defences of September! Please note, the outcomes are all calculated on statistics in league matches.
Here we go:
Premier Division
We’ve already visited Bishop’s Stortford, and we’re off there again, as we deliver plaudits to a defence that conceded only one league goal in September. Brightlingsea Regent got that goal- not that it helped them much as they conceded four- whilst Hornchurch and Leatherhead didn’t manage a goal between them. Jack Giddens was the man between the sticks, and he’ll soon have a new pair of gloves.
North Division
Aveley haven’t yet hit the heights we might have expected from them, but they have been rather tough to beat, and they managed two clean sheets from three in their September league matches. We’re sure it won’t be long before they are challenging at the top end of the table, but for now the plaudits go to their defence, and in particular to keeper David Hughes.
South Central Division
Here we pause, and think of a collection of superlatives. We only look at League matches, and in their three Pitching In Isthmian South Central League matches during September Marlow didn’t concede a single goal. More than that, they delivered a one hundred percent record.
Taking that a step further, and although they don’t count towards this award, September also saw them win two cup matches without conceding a goal- and if we add that to the three matches they played in August without anything ending up in the back of Simon Grant’s net, well, the outcome is quite extraordinary.
Congratulations to Simon and his superb defence for being, well, quite brilliant.
South East Division
The highlight of VCD Athletic’s September was undoubtedly their five-nil win over Sevenoaks Town, but given they went through the entire month in the Pitching In Isthmian South East Division without defeat, that could be a highlight in itself! We suspect that during his illustrious career Sam Mott has won rather a lot of these awards, but he’s got another to come- congrats to Sam and his defence.
Thanks to AB1 Goalkeeping for being our sponsors. You can take a look at their magnificent products- and they don’t just sell gloves- by heading HERE.
Premier League winner and international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will be best known for his work between the posts, particularly for Stoke City, Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth. But he also has his own company- AB1 Goalkeeping- who provide magnificent products for discerning goalkeepers everywhere- and we are lucky enough to have them as sponsors of our Golden Gloves Award. As they explain:
'AB1 Goalkeeping was the brainchild of one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers, Asmir Begovic.
