Bay to host a special commemoration

Herne Bay to remember the fallen

This Saturday 3rd November 2018 will be Herne Bay’s Remembrance Day commemoration where they will remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom. And fittingly their opponents will be VCD Athletic who were formed in 1916 by workers employed at the Vickers armaments factory in Crayford. VCD (Vickers, Crayford and Dartford) Athletic are one of only a handful of teams to have originated during the time of the Great War.

The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal organisers will be on hand, wartime memories music will be playing and excepts from the Robert Laurence Binyon poem ‘For the Fallen’ will be read. The Herne Bay FC Poppy Wreath is to be laid on the centre circle and there will be a minute’s silence (including thoughts for Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha) followed by the last post. And in the evening there will be a Comedy Night with a raffle in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The game will be sponsored by the supporters, who are raising money for this worthy cause.
