Beachboys thank Stokes again

By Peter Butcher

A LATE goal by Tony Stokes earned Concord a 1-1 home draw with Thurrock tonight (Thursday) and lifted them into second place in the Ryman Premier table.

Thurrock, despite starting the night 17 places below their hosts, had the better of the first half and deservedly took the lead in added time with a superb solo goal by Danny Green.

Concord had a tough game against Bury 48 hours earlier, when Stokes (pictured by Ray Lawrence/TGS Photo) grabbed a late winner, but they still had the strength to take control of the game in its latter stages and drew level in the 85th minute, that man Stokes on target again as he hooked in Leon Gordon’s cross with a neat volley.

The Beachboys are nine points behind leaders Whitehawk with three games in hand while Thurrock stay 20th, three points above Hastings in 21st place and two behind Wingate, who have played six more games than either of them.

The main significance of the Ryman North clash between Btentwood and Wroxham, which also ended in a 1-1 draw, was that it was played at all. Brentwood still have 13 games left, Wroxham 12, so both sides were very grateful that the pitch passed a lunchtime inspection.

Steve Butterworth put Brentwood ahead three minutes after the interval and Angelo Harrop replied ten minutes later.
