Becks our only one hundred percenters

By Ian Townsend

Another win for Beckenham, Rams go second, and Bridges go fourth on a day of drama and narrow Pitching In Isthmian South East victories

It had been a fabulous start to Step Four life for Beckenham Town prior to the visit of Sheppey United. Four goals, four wins, twelve goals scored, three goals scored in every match, three-two wins for the last three- Becks fans certainly couldn’t say they’ve been starved of entertainment! We suspect they won’t be too disappointed that they didn’t score three more, because they did pick up another three points. Jamarie Brissett have them the lead on twenty one minutes, but United were level by the break, Warren Mfula with the equaliser- and then found themselves playing against ten men, Nick Curran seeing red for the hosts. Richard Hamill then evened things up with a red card for the Ites with seventeen minutes left, and eight minutes from time, with a draw looking likely, Harvey Brand stepped up to make it three more points for Town.

Whitehawk saw a late goal delete their one hundred percent start at Cray Valley PM. The Millers went ahead on eighteen minutes, Ade Adeyemo with the goal, but it was level by the break as Ryan Warwick delivered an equaliser. The Hawks were soon ahead, Javaun Splatt ten minutes after the break, but with the visiting fans counting their points Adam Coombes equalised for the Millers in the very last minute. That’s three draws from their last three meetings.

Two of our expected promotion-chasers met at Hanbury Park, as Haywards Heath Town welcomed Ramsgate. Heath hadn’t had the start we expected from them, with only one point from their opening two fixtures and defeat in the cup at Leatherhead- and things didn’t get any better, as the Rams got a late goal to seal victory. Joshua Ajayi gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half, before Ibrahim Jalloh delighted the home faithful with an equaliser just after the restart. Three minutes from time the Rams got the winner, Jerald Aboagye shocking the home fans amongst the three hundred and forty six watching on, and sending his side second.

Chichester City welcomed Corinthian to Cathedral land. The visitors won here as recently as April, three-nil, so an early chance for revenge was available to the hosts- but with four minutes left on the clock it looked as if they were about to experience another defeat, Festos Kamara’s early goal the difference. Thomas Dinsmore had other ideas, and grabbed an equaliser.

Hythe Town welcome Sevenoaks Town to Reachfields, a match between two sides in good form. Neither could manage a goal, however.

Chatham Town welcomed Burgess Hill Town, the Hillians still looking for a first league point, whilst the Chats had four. The Hillians still search, and the Chats have seven, after first half goals from Emmanuel Oloyede and Jack Evans gave them a two goal cushion. Martyn Box got one back for the visitors right at the end, but it was too little, too late. Chatham are fifth.

We hed a Sussex derby at Jubilee Field, as Three Bridges welcomed Lancing. The last meeting between the two, back in January, was a seven goal thriller- the Lancers coming back from three-two down to win four-three with a goal two minutes from time clinching the points- but there was no chance of a comeback in this one, Bridges coasting to a three-nil win. Tad Bromage gave them the lead after eleven minutes, Noel Leighton made it two just before the break, and twelve minutes from time Kevin Rivera made sure with a third. Bridges are up to fourth.

Ashford United, pitch finally legal, welcomed East Grinstead Town. The Nuts and Bolts had won both matches so far, and it looked like they’d won another after a Johan Ter Horst double put them two-nil up after an hour, but the Wasps still had a sting. First Thibault Abie got one back with fifteen minutes remaining, and then eight minutes from time Matt Daniel secured a point.

VCD Athletic and Littlehampton Town met at Oakwood, and couldn’t find a goal between them.

Finally, we had a Kentish derby as Sittingbourne welcomed Faversham Town. Both were looking for their first wins, but now only the Lilywhites remain in that search, as the Brickies came from behind to win two-one. All goals came in the first half, Nathan Wood giving Faversham the lead only for former Sheppey United man Henry Dasofunjo to equalise ten minutes before the break. Sittingbourne were straight back up the field immediately after kick off and added a second, Harry Harding against his former club, and that, it turned out, was that.
