Bees back in the top five- and Westfield win comfortably at Imber Court

By Ian Townsend

Basildon leave it late- whilst Westfield do all their work in the first half. it's our Wednesday night round up, on a night when rain again got in the way of football

Basildon United ended their three game winless streak against New Salamis last night- but goodness, they left it late. The Bees, who had dropped out of the Pitching In Isthmian North top five after defeats against Bowers and Pitsea and Lowestoft Town sandwiched a draw at Heybridge Swifts, gave their new boss his first win with a goal right at the end, Kyle Jude up from the back to be the hero with his fourth goal of the season in the very last minute.

It was hard on visiting keeper Reuben Rabstein, who had kept his side in the match with multiple saves after they’d played for thirty five minutes with ten men, following the sending off of Cam Poyraz. Right at the end they went down to nine, Wilson Chingokwa also seeing red.

The Bees are up to fifth. New Salamis are fifteenth, fifteen points behind last night’s hosts.

In Pitching In Isthmian South Central a first half blitz saw Westfield pick up their second win- and second three goal haul- of the Christmas period, as they followed Saturday’s three-two win over promotion chasing Marlow with a comfortable three-nil win at Metropolitan Police.

Manolis Gogonas opened the scoring from the spot on twenty one minutes, his fifth goal of the season, and four minutes before the break Jacob Breckon made it two. The boys in blue then saw their match as good as over, as only two minutes later Jordan Alves added a third. The second half saw no further goals, but that was just fine for the visitors, who didn’t need any.

Westfield are up to seventh, three points away from a play off spot- whilst Met are two points above the drop zone.
