Bees hit three- whilst Greens and Stow have to settle for a point

By Ian Townsend

Basildon United were our only North Wednesday winners

Basildon United made it three wins from four by cruising past Enfield at the R&D Advisors Stadium last night. The Bees saw Enfield hit the post before making a mark of their own, but on twenty seven minutes Samir Ali opened the scoring -his fourteenth goal of the season- and the visitors were comfortable before the break, Sid Walker making it two on forty minutes. The E’s, who had lost their previous seven matches, were never quite finished off until the very last minute, but the very last minute came with a goal, Ruben Bartlett-Antwi making it three-nil and finally sealing three points.

The Bees are seventh, but remain seven points away from a top five spot- albeit with a game in hand. They do, however, still have to take on Bury Town, Brentwood Town and Bowers and Pitsea on their own patch, so will feel that their chances of play off success are still very much in their own hands. The E’s are one place outside drop zone, albeit with a thirteen point advantage over Stowmarket Town- but have now lost eight in a row.

Walthamstow find themselves in sixth place, but they very much needed three points in Great Yarmouth last night, only to find Gorleston unwilling to oblige. The Greens very much had the best of the first half, the visitors had the best of the second half, but there was little in the way of entertainment and nothing in the way of goals.

Stow are six points behind fifth place Bowers and Pitsea having played a game more- although they do end the season by travelling to the Len Salmon and have four of their remaining seven fiuxtures at home, so will still have hope. The Greens are comfortable in eleventh, and have three home fixtures over the next ten days.
