BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Dereham Town

We head to the North Division for the first time, and get the views of Matt Dack, representing Dereham Town

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Next up, we head North! Matt Dack is a Dereham Town fan, and rather like many of his brethren is approaching the new season with confidence:

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

My favourite moment was watching the lads lift the Norfolk Senior Cup. There was a dramatic turnaround of form- from being bottom of the league in February to finish mid table, with only a few teams in the league gaining more points per game ratio. The lads really deserved something for their efforts.

2. And your worst moment?

The worst moment of season was to bow out of the FA cup to Boston Town at home after leading and looking comfortable at half time. Everyone loves a cup run with the rewards it can bring to a club and belief it installs into the players and fans.

3. How will you do this season?

I think we will go well this season and be in and around the playoffs.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

All of them to be honest win, lose or draw there's nothing better than watching your local football team whilst having some banter with the fans and occasionally the opposing goalkeeper.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Obviously I think most will pick Parkside because it's brand new, but for me I think AFC Sudbury is a great ground, good facilities and one of the shortest trips of the season for us Dereham fans.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Being the only team from Norfolk playing at this level since Wroxham and Norwich United have dropped down we don't really have a local derby as such anymore, which is as shame. The nearest thing I guess we have to a rivalry are the teams from Suffolk, Bury Town and AFC Sudbury.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

The best advice to away fans visiting us would be to make a weekend of it. They can enjoy Norfolk and what it has to offer. I believe a few of the Tilbury fans do this- oh and bring lots of beer money!

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?
Favourite player is difficult one, I have seen many good players at our club in the time I've supported it, with several turning pro, most recently Luke Hannant and Frazer Blake-Tracy. I've got to know a lot of the players off the pitch over that time, too- including two that are now our managers. If I had to pick one player out of all of them it would be Luke Tuttle, for the sheer amount of ridiculous goals I have seen him score for us.

You know that a player is good when you sit in the clubhouse and hear the opposing fans talking about him before the game.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?
Maldon & Tiptree, Aveley, Heybridge Swifts, Histon, Coggeshall Town.

Right, you've read Matt’s thoughts, do you want to be next? If you'd like to represent your club, then please send an email to townsendaround@gmail.com and we shall see what we can do!
