BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Wingate and Finchley

Rather appropriately for the hottest week of the year, we’re off to Summers Lane for our next set of predictions.

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Wingate & Finchley had a rather difficult season, but supporter Colin Foster hopes for better this time around.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Winning 7-2 away at Harlow Town. We were part of the relegation battle, and went into this game fearing we could lose ground on rivals, but that fear was soon taken away as went 5-0 up in just over half an hour. Everything that hit the target went in, and it was a special performance when it was most needed.

Also scoring twice in last ten minutes against Burgess Hill on the last day of season, to secure survival, was a special moment too.

2. And your worst moment?

Most of the season was a disappointment. We changed manager so many times, and we never found any consistency or the right level of performance until right at the end of the season.

3. How will you do this season?

I hope we won't struggle like last season. If we can play as we did at the end of the season then there is no reason why we can't stay away from bottom of the table and try and fight for a top-half finish.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

There are only 2 grounds in the Isthmian Premier that I haven't visited previously, which are Bowers and Pitsea and Horsham. I’m looking forward to visiting those in the early part of season (Bowers opening day and Horsham on a Tuesday in September) to complete the Premier Division again as I did last season.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Probably everyone says this, but it has to be Lewes. It's an iconic ground, and memories of going there on non-league day a few seasons ago as the 'Sid Army' with Sid James masks- and making it on Sky Sports News and into 442 magazine- will always stick in my mind even though we lost the game.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Any of the North London clubs due to their proximity. Enfield, Haringey and Potters Bar. Everyone loves a local derby and even more so if they come out victorious.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Bring your camera to take pictures of our comedy flag selection, and of our main stand which is the oldest cantilever stand in Britain and is Grade 2 listed. It is also double sided with the Rugby club next door, although don't park in the Rugby club grounds as your car will get locked in.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Rob Laney. He always give 100% and runs for every minute he is on the pitch. He will always come over to the fans after the game to thank us for our support.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Worthing, East Thurrock United, Haringey Borough, Folkestone Invicta, Leatherhead
