Big crowd expected for family fun day

By David Watters

Hayden Bird's Merstham are looking forward to a bumper crowd getting behind them on Saturday when they go in search of their second home win of the Ryman Premier campaign.

Last season's Ryman South play-off winners, pictured, announced on Thursday that as part of a family fun day they are hosting, they were waiving turnstiles charges for their top flight clash with East Thurrock United and even laying on a bouncy castle and mini soccer to keep an expected surge of younger fans happy.

Saturday's entertainment at Moatside kicks off at 1.30pm with a display by the Merstham Community Soccer School with all the club's teams getting together on the pitch before the match for an official photo call. A BBQ follows after the action from 5.30pm with live music from 'The Detours' taking over from 7.30pm.

Merstham's solitary home win so far was on Saturday 5 September when they beat Needham Market 2-0.
