Blues blunt Millers charge

By Ian Townsend

Aveley's place at the top of the table could be taken today, as Bishop's Stortford close on the top five

Aveley still lead the Pitching In Isthmian Premier by two points, but they are in danger of being removed from the summit following last night's match at Bishop's Stortford. A win for Horsham at Haringey Borough this afternoon would see the Hornets looking down on the rest, with the Millers down to second place.

The Millers travelled to face the Blues having won five of their six league matches- and perhaps glad to play someone other than Potters Bar Town given their last three fixtures had been against Sammy Moore's side- but Stortford, without a win in five prior to kick off, finally found form once more and leapt up the table to sixth with a comfortable victory.

A goal just before the break- Frankie Merrifield lifting the ball over Millers keeper David Hughes and tapping home after a through ball from Ryan Charles- made the home fans happy as they queued for their half time burger. On sixty one minutes Merrifield again found the net, this one from just inside the box, and he created it himself, closing down a defender and stealing the ball to finish.

Four hundred and twenty nine watched on, and Stortford are up to sixth.
