Blues, Grays and Yachtsmen search for home points

By Ian Townsend

Brentwood hope to go fourth, Stowmarket for that first win, Regent for a third win in a row, Grays, Wroxham and New Salamis to climb the table. It’s our North preview.

Brentwood Town can climb back to fourth place with victory this evening- and they must be red hot favourites as they welcome Stowmarket Town to the Arena. The Blues have lost only two of their last ten, both of those single goal defeats against the top two, so will be full of confidence, particularly given the fact they’ve won the other seven of their last nine fixtures. Stow make the journey having taken only five points all season- all draws- and with a thirteen point gap between themselves and safety even the most optimistic fan must be beginning to accept the worst. It seems an awful long time since Stow were defeating the Blues- twice- last season.

Brentwood won their last encounter, in October, by three goals to one- a match which saw both sides play the entire second half with ten men.

Brightlingsea Regent seem to have suddenly rediscovered their mojo. With a fifteen point gap between themselves and the top five it may be too late for them to get involved in the end of season finale, but with two victories in a row- particularly the two-one win over leaders Lowestoft at the weekend- the smiles are back amongst the Taydal faithful, and we suspect they’ll still be wearing them as they arrive at Tilbury to take on Grays Athletic. The hosts have had a campaign to forget, but ended a four match losing streak with victory over Redbridge at the weekend and will be hoping to build on that- their squad is surely far better than their league position, although, as they say, the table doesn’t lie! Regent won the first meeting between the sides by two goals to one.

Wroxham and New Salamis meet on the Norfolk Broads- and they’ll meet again in North London on April 5th, so if anyone loses tonight they’ll have a speedy chance of revenge. We say ‘if anyone loses’ as the two sides are at the top of the draws table for the North Division, two of three sides who have drawn seven times, Witham Town the other. The Salamina, three points behind their hosts at kick off, have lost their last three- whilst the Yachtsmen have also been the epitome of inconsistency, and come into the match on the back of two defeats.

Last season’s encounters saw four points head to Norfolk, after a two-nil win at Trafford Park and a three-three draw at Coles Park.
