Boro pulling out all the stops for sick child

Romford's players will be warming up for their Ryman North clash with Soham Town Rangers on Saturday in special t-shirts to raise funds for a local youngster with a rare form of cancer.

Manager Paul Martin and his side are looking forward to generating as much money as possible for local eight-year-old Joni-Mai, pictured, who has Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

The youngster's battle with cancer is both heart-breaking and inspiring.

Since being diagnosed in 2011 when she was five, Joni-Mai has undergone more than 26 rounds of chemotherapy, three rounds of radiotherapy, various minor operations, a stem cell harvest and had her whole right femur and part of her hip removed and replaced with metalwork.

Romford's players and management have all paid £10 each to wear the t-shirts after getting the go-ahead from the Ryman League and the club have also announced that all of the weekend's gate money will be donated towards the fund to send the sick child overseas for treatment.

Only around 30 people are diagnosed each year with the cancer and fans, players and officials at the club and are now hoping to add to the £200 they they have already raised by getting as many people along to the fixture as possible.

Martin said: "It is such a sad story and we are going to donate all the gate money to little Joni-Mai. We are hoping we can get as many people over to watch as possible to generate as much money as we can."
