Business as usual as caretakers confirmed

By David Watters

Cheshunt chairman Dean Williamson is backing new manager Paul Wickenden, his assistant Andy Crawford and goalkeeping coach Peter Russell to take the Ryman North club forward after handing full control to the trio on Monday.

Named as the interim management team at Theobalds Lane on Saturday following the departure of former Ware, Waltham Abbey and Harlow manager Glen Alzapeidi, they are now preparing to take charge of the Ambers on a permanent basis for the first time at sixth-placed Bury Town in the league on Tuesday night.

After guiding the Ambers to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at home to Soham Town Rangers, Williamson believes the trio are perfectly placed to succeed Alzapeidi who brought them to the club in the summer.

Wickenden, pictured left on touchline alongside Alzapeidi, was at the Abbots for nearly six years before leaving in May and Williamson said: "I am delighted to confirm that Paul will continue as manager with Andy as assistant and Peter as goalkeeping coach.

"They have been with us since pre-season and have being doing a great job already so it is natural appointment to make and everybody at the club wishes them well.

"Paul had great experience managing at this level from his time at Waltham Abbey and we have the same abilities, the same targets and the same good squad of players that we started the season with so it is business as usual."

Alzapeidi informed Williamson and the club's players at the weekend that he was leaving just under a year after taking charge last October.
