Can Field continue at the top?

By Ian Townsend

Our top two meet in Woking- and we've an action packed Pitching In Isthmian South Central Saturday to look forward to. Here's our preview.

We have three sides with one hundred percent records- and two of them meet in our match of the day.

Westfield have been in irresistible form, and any Wrexham fans in the vicinity for their late afternoon kick off over the road at Woking will surely be entertained should they pop in. Field welcome Northwood to Woking Park, a clash of the top two no less. So far the hosts have scored twelve goals and conceded only one, with impressive League walloping’s of expected promotion candidates Leatherhead and Basingstoke Town, both of whom were taken to bits and left on the end of a four-nil thrashing. Woods departed the cup against Ashford Town in midweek, but were very good indeed in wins over Bedfont Sports and Tooting & Mitcham United- and in their opening cup victory over South Park Reigate.

Woods took four points from six last season, but had lost the previous three meetings.

Title favourites Chertsey Town are on the road to Sutton Common Rovers. The Curfews have had a mixed start to the campaign so far, hammering South Park on the opening day but with a draw and a cup defeat from their last two. Rovers have played only one league match, a four-three win over Chipstead. The two matches last season went the way of Chertsey, who won both with a seven-one aggregate.

Marlow, fresh from their TV heroics last weekend, are on the road to Tooting & Mitcham United, where there are unlikely to be any BBC cameras. Unbeaten so far this season, and with Dawid Rogalski already on four goals, they face a Terrors side whose only win from four matches so far came on the opening day, when they defeated Cobham in the Cup. Marlow did the double over the Terrors last season, after their three previous meetings had ended in draws.

Uxbridge travel to face Walton & Hersham- a third ‘H’ opponent in four for the Red Army after matches against Hassocks and Hanworth Villa- perhaps we can call it four from four if we include SoutHall? Uxbridge remain unbeaten so far, whilst the Swans are scoring goals for fun, fifteen so far this season in five matches- and they’ve conceded nine. Yes, this one has goalless draw written all over it!

Binfield have taken four points from their opening two matches, and a cup win last weekend sees them unbeaten. The Moles welcome a Merstham side still looking for that first victory, after departing the Cup at Sevenoaks in midweek.

After a win and a loss from their opening two league matches- and a cup win and defeat before and after them- Southall welcome Guernsey, the Green Lions playing only their second match of the season after an opening day goalless draw at Thatcham Town.

Thatcham, who have drawn their two opening matches against Guernsey and Marlow, will hope to pick up a first win of the campaign as Leatherhead make the journey. The Tanners started poorly, with two league defeats, but were much improved in defeating Haywards Heath Town in the cup last weekend.

Hanworth Villa were impressive in defeating Chertsey Town in the Cup last weekend, and remain unbeaten after four matches in all competitions. They welcome Basingstoke Town, their visitors perhaps having found their form after walloping Lymington Town six-nil in the cup last weekend. Stoke needed that victory, after failing to score in their opening two matches.

Finally, Bedfont Sports haven’t had the start to the campaign they might have expected. An opening day draw against Basingstoke Town followed by two defeats- a cup defeat at Erith Town last week the latest of those. They welcome a Chipstead side in even worse shape, after losing their opening three league matches and being knocked out of the Cup, two. Both sides need a positive result to kickstart their campaign.

The two picked up one win each from their meetings last season.
