Community call for Red Nose Day!

By David Watters

Thousands of fans and their clubs can start looking forward to teaming up again on Ryman League Community Day to support Comic Relief and Red Nose Day 2017!

Taking place this season on Saturday 25 March, the annual fundraising drive and celebration of the community work done by the Ryman League’s 72 clubs is set to be bigger and better than ever this year as sponsors Ryman bring the curtain down on a record-breaking 20 year title sponsorship at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

As well as sending hundreds of special Ryman League Community Day flyers out via clubs to local schools and community groups for one adult and a child to see a Ryman League fixture for free, the Isthmian League’s title sponsors have teamed up with The Non-League Paper to run a one-off competition for budding young match reporters aged 11 and under.

To see their account of a game they attend on the Saturday published in the following Sunday’s paper and win £250 worth of Ryman goodies - including a desk, VR headset, experiments kits, colouring materials and much more - the young scribes must write and submit a 180 word match report by 7pm on Sunday March 26.

The winning entry will be chosen by Theo Paphitis, the sponsor’s managing director, retail entrepreneur and ex-Dragon's Den star, whose companies have raised over £3.5m for Comic Relief over the years with the help of fans and clubs as a long-standing partner of the charity.

Paphitis said: “The Ryman Community Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the beautiful game at grass roots level, firstly for football lovers to watch and support their local teams, but also for parents and their kids to simply have a great family day out. Go on, get involved!”

Ryman League chairman Nick Robinson said: “The board are delighted that we have been able to work with Ryman to put this event in place. It is part of a fitting climax to the conclusion of a fantastic partnership with Ryman and Theo Paphitis in particular.”

All entries for the competition should be sent to MatchReport@ryman.co.uk. For more information look out for the flyers being delivered to grounds this weekend.
