Coventry departs with final honour

East Thurrock United's popular manager John Coventry has collected a final honour for leading the Rocks to promotion via the Ryman League's 2016-17 promotion play-offs.

Before guiding his side to a 6-0 warm-up win over Erith & Belvedere at Park View Road on Saturday, Coventry is pictured being presented with an engraved perpetual memento trophy by Ryman League secretary Kellie Discipline to mark the club's historic 3-1 victory over Dulwich Hamlet in the Ryman Premier's promotion play-off final.

After securing a third place finish in the Ryman League's top flight, a record crowd of 1,661 crammed into Rookery Hill back on Monday 2 May to see Coventry's Rocks win promotion into the National League South for the first time in the club’s 47-year-history.

East Thurrock United's big win over the Southern Counties East League's Deres at the weekend included a hat-trick from new signing Reece Harris, the 24-year-old midfielder marking his return to the ground where he played for Welling in the National League last season.
