Easter Monday's Ryman North action review

By David Watters

The weather hit Easter Monday's fixture list in Ryman North hard with only Harlow Town of the teams in the top five managing to play, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And they won 2-0 at Capershotts against third-bottom Waltham Abbey to move into third place and virtually assure themselves a place in the play-offs. Alex Read proved to be the Hawks` hero, netting a brace in the 59th and 70th minutes.

Thamesmead Town are three points adrift of the top five but were held to a 1-1 draw at mid-table Phoenix Sports.

However, Mead boss Terry Spillane may deem this as a missed opportunity as they led through Paul Vines` 51st minute effort and then saw the home side reduced to ten-men just past the hour-mark with a straight red card for Jason Goodchild. But instead of pressing home their advantage, Mead saw Russell Bradford equalise three minutes from time.

It was even worse for the team immediately above Mead – Brightlingsea Regent – who suffered a 1-0 home defeat to relegation-threatened Wroxham, whose winner came courtesy of a 71st minute Daniel Beeson own goal.

In the only other game to survive, Great Wakering Rovers pulled themselves to a virtually safe seventeenth spot after hammering Tilbury 6-1 at home.

Rovers led through a Jacob Cleaver brace on 13 and 22 minutes when the Dockers had Dan Glozier dismissed with a straight red card. Jake Gordon added a brace of his own on 49 and 63 minutes and Charlie Barlow and Dan Gilchrist made it six in the final 12 minutes, with Tilbury`s Tony Martin netting a spot-kick consolation.
